According to foreign news on December 13, official data released on Friday showed that Peru's copper production in October fell 1.4% from the same period last year due to reduced production at the country's two largest mines.
Copper production totaled 236,797 tons in October. Data released by the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines showed that the Cerro Verde mine controlled by Freeport-McMoRan and the Antamina mine jointly controlled by Glencore and BHP Billiton fell 6.6% and 22.2% in October, respectively. In the first 10 months of this year, Peru's national copper production totaled 2.23 million tons, down 0.7% from the same period last year.
The government estimates that copper production will total 2.8 million tons in 2024, slightly higher than the 2.76 million tons produced last year.
